Screens and their impact on mental health is one of the biggest issues facing kids, teens, and young adults today. And when people look to social media for advice, they find misinformation. According to The Guardian, over half of the top trending mental health videos on TikTok have inaccurate information.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be talking all about digital wellness. Starting with an interview with Larissa May, founder of #HalfTheStory, a movement to empower the next generation’s relationship with social media. Here’s a sneak peek of what she had to say…

“I was really the first generation that went into college and never had a roadmap or a compass for how to navigate the digital world. I started to realize that I didn't know how to take care of my emotions, so I started using my screen to deal with that, and I started scrolling more than I was even strolling or sleeping or socializing. And it got to a point where my brain and my mental health was really hurting, and no one knew how to help me, but also I never really had the skills to use social media the right way. So that's why I made #HalfTheStory, because I realized that young people needed to take back control of technology in order to write a new story for the future.”
